Your Big Stone Gap Orthodontist

Norton Orthodontics

Dr. Jeremiah Sturgill grew up in the small town of Big Stone Gap in southwestern Virginia. He knew he wanted to be an orthodontist as a teenager.

After seeing how much braces changed his smile, he was inspired to help others achieve similar success through orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Sturgill endured the rigorous process of becoming board-certified, involving hundreds of additional hours of preparation to show he was able to provide the highest level of patient care.

He was proud to earn the distinction of becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. This honor is bestowed on only 40% of practicing orthodontists.

His dedication to his patients and their dental health helps people smile in more ways than one.

He combines his profound orthodontic skill with thorough communication, professionalism, and a zany sense of humor to help patients achieve the orthodontic results they want, all while having fun.

Dr. Allison Williams grew up in the Midwestern town of Carmel, IN, where at the age of 11 she first told her parents about her desire to become an orthodontist. That dream began to unfold when she attended Indiana University, studying Biology and Small Business Management. She graduated with honors in 2014, and met her husband, Matt, through leading Young Life in the process.

Dr. Williams continued to pursue her dream, beginning her dental education at Indiana University School of Dentistry, located in Indianapolis. In 2018, she completed her training and graduated at the top of her class. Subsequently, Dr. Williams accepted a residency position at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry Graduate Orthodontic Residency Program – one of the top orthodontic programs in the country. She earned an Orthodontic Certification and Master’s Degree of Dental Science upon successfully defending her thesis on 3-D printing. Through this program, Dr. Williams gained extensive experience with interdisciplinary cases and served on the craniofacial team during her time as a resident.

Why an Orthodontist in Big Stone Gap? Orthodontist vs. Dentist

An orthodontist is a dentist, but a dentist is not an Orthodontist.

Our doctors have spent years studying nothing but how and why to move teeth, as have all orthodontists. This includes what to do, how to plan, and how to execute the necessary treatment plan for you. Not every dentist is qualified to be an orthodontist, even though every orthodontist starts as a dentist. Our doctors, like all orthodontists, continued their education for 2 or 3 additional years before receiving the necessary license and certification.

Why does it matter if you see your Big Stone Gap Orthodontist?

Dentists receive basic orthodontic training so they can perform root canals, extract wisdom teeth, and treat young children who don't need to see an orthodontist yet. Specialists, on the other hand, receive additional training to give them the skills needed to deal with more complex orthodontic issues.

Seeing a specialist like a Big Stone Gap orthodontist may change your braces experience by:

    • Providing more treatment options, with a variety of braces or therapies to choose from
    • Having personal experience treating multiple cases that are similar to your unique concerns and anatomical characteristics.
    • More efficient treatment and visits, because it's the office's main focus.
    • Knowing that you'll receive the best possible outcome on your treatment plan, especially if you have worse than usual bite discrepancies that need to be dealt with
    • Being seen more quickly, as a family dentist will be focused on longer patient cases or emergencies throughout the day.

While you may think it's easier to have your orthodontic work done by your dentist, convenience shouldn't be a barrier to seeing a specialist. You will only be stopping by our orthodontic offices every six to eight weeks.

And don't let price be a problem either! Sturgill Orthodontics is proud to provide affordable treatment in the Big Stone Gap area.
